Pricing is shown before you ever send an inquiry

Every vendor on SmokyVows publishes a starting price on their profile. Photographers, venues, officiants, florists: all of them. You can compare a $1,200 elopement photographer against a $4,800 full-day photographer without sending three emails to find out who’s in your range.

This is the single biggest thing missing from most national directories. We made it a listing requirement.

Results are ordered by reviews, not by who paid

The first vendor you see for “Gatlinburg wedding photographer” on SmokyVows is not the vendor who paid the most. The default order is built from one thing: how couples rated them here. The score is smoothed, so a single five star review cannot put a vendor above someone holding a 4.8 across forty of them, and a vendor with no reviews yet sits in the middle rather than being pushed up or buried. When two vendors come out level, the newer profile shows first.

You can also order the results yourself: newest, most reviewed, highest rated, or lowest starting price. Every vendor is on the same flat monthly subscription, there is nothing above it to buy, and no vendor can pay to sit above another.

This is genuinely uncommon. The big directories bake paid placement into their default sort. The little “Featured” or “Sponsored” labels are usually small and gray.

Elopement vendors who know the park

If you want to elope at Clingmans Dome, Newfound Gap, or another overlook inside the park, you need a special use permit, applied for at least two weeks ahead, and there is a fee. Your vendors need to know the rules, because a photographer who does not know they cannot bring a tripod off the paved overlook is a problem you find out about on the day.

The SmokyVows elopements page gathers the vendors who list themselves as elopement specialists, so you can start there instead of asking every photographer in the region whether they have worked inside the park.

Badges you cannot buy

On most directories, a “Best of the year” badge is something the vendor paid for. Here there is nothing to buy, and I cannot hand one out. Badges come from what the data shows. Top pick means a vendor’s reviews really do average that high, across a real number of them. Highly responsive means they reply in hours, not days. Couples favorite means enough couples saved them to a shortlist that it stopped being a coincidence. A vendor can tell me they specialize in something, but the numbers still have to back it before the badge appears.
